I have always had an interest
in the arts and sciences. As a child my favorite pastimes were building
forts outside, wading the neighborhood creek for miles, and lying in my
room surrounded by paper, drawing.
I dabbled in dance and photography as well, and currently play keyboards in a rock band called Intelligent Design. I am currently a second year master's candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I attend the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management and am specializing in Conservation Planning. I earned a B.S. in Botany at the University of Washington in 2005 as well as certificates in restoration ecology and scientific illustration. My studies have led me to the Caribbean (keying tropical ferns), the Amazon rainforest (learning ecological monitoring techniques), and to Mount St. Helens where I studied vegetation patterns on the northern area of the volcano. This past summer I interned at The Nature Conservancy. This internship introduced me to conservation planning in the real world and allowed me the chance to see the inner workings of a successful NGO. I plan on continuing to create botanical illustrations, further my academic studies in ecology and conservation planning, and explore the world around me. |
